Undergraduate Degree Programs - 4th Year Students

BFA Honours, BA Honours, BEd, and Honours Minor

The Department of Dance offers two Honours (120-credit) degrees in Dance at the undergraduate level for our current 4th year students: the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Honours and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours. An additional program is the Concurrent Bachelor of Education (BEd). Also offered are the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance (90-credit) and the Honours Minor in Dance (30-credit).

NOTE: Due to the intensive nature of Fine Arts degrees, it is not possible to
double major in Fine Arts.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Honours

Our BFA Honours degree combines a concentration in studio work such as technique, creative work and somatics with studies in dance production, dance history, teaching methodologies, dance writing, and dance science. Studio classes in Western concert dance forms such as contemporary/modern and ballet are complemented by offerings in West African, Philippine and Urban forms. Given the extensive and wide ranging areas of studies in this degree, BFA students may need to allow extra time to complete a double major.

For more information about the required courses for the BFA, please see the Degree Worksheet here.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours

Our Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours integrates dance studies in history, creativity, dance writing, dance science, anthropology, cross-cultural research, and criticism with some physical practice in Western concert dance, West African, Philippine and Urban forms. Frequently, BA students double major in a program outside Fine Arts, such as English, History, Anthropology, or Kinesiology.

For more information about the required courses for the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Honours degree, please see the Degree Worksheet here.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance (90-credit)
Students in the three-year Bachelor of Arts (90-credit) degree complete the degree through a balance of theory and studio courses.

Students in this degree will be well positioned to continue in a college-level specialized certificate program such as community & health studies, hospitality, tourism & culture, event planning, international development or public administration.

NOTE: As the BA 90-credit is a three-year degree, it does not support application for graduate school.

For more information about the required courses for the BA (90-credit degree, please see the Degree Worksheet here.

Concurrent degree in Education (BEd)

For students wishing to pursue a Concurrent degree in Education (BEd) with their
Dance (BFA Hons) degree, we offer a five-year co-registered program. In addition to receiving both BFA and BEd degrees, successful graduates earn a recommendation for the Ontario Certificate of Qualification.

Department of Dance classes in contemporary/modern and other dance forms, cross-cultural studies, dance kinesiology, choreographic history and choreography combine with focused pedagogical studies to prepare students for rewarding careers in Ontario’s public and private school systems.

For more information about the required courses for the Concurrent Education Degree, please see the Degree Worksheet here.

Honours Minor in Dance (30-credit)

The Department of Dance has a 30-credit Honours Minor in Dance for students majoring in other programs. This minor offers an emphasis on dance studies with courses in dance writing, choreographic history, dance & popular culture and cross-cultural studies.
